‘The Bachelorette’ review: Desiree Hartsock, James Case connect over Hurricane Sandy

DesireeSo far this season of “The Bachelorette” hasn’t really been all that engaging. From the promotional campaign ABC had for this show we thought this was going to be a really exciting season, but there’s just something missing this season in between none of the men really standing out and Desiree not opening up to the viewers in the same way that Emily Maynard and Ashley Hebert did. So what happened on this week’s episode of “The Bachelorette”?

First one on one date: Brad McKinzie got his chance to spend some time alone with Desiree where they went to the boardwalk in Atlantic City, played games, went on rides and ate salt water taffy. Over all the beginning of date was really positive for both Brad and Desiree, but when they got to the dinner portion the conversation got a little stagnant. Brad is a “good on paper” kinda guy, but there really didn’t seem to be much of a spark between them. At the end of the date she tells him that he’s not the guy for her and she sends him home.

Group Date: The group date turned into a Mr. America contest which was a fantastic reason to get all of the men shirtless and in speedos. The Q&A portion of the competition went well for most of the guys (unlike Miss Utah who botched this part of the Miss USA competition last night) and as far as the talent… well the guys really gave it their all and had a lot of fun with it with the highlight being Zak W’s beautiful song to Desiree. So who won the competition? Much to our surprise it wasn’t Zak W., it was Kasey Stewart, but that doesn’t mean he’s getting the rose. After the talent show the group date continued at a pool party where Desiree gave the rose to Zak W.

Second one on one date: James got the date and they took a helicopter over the Jersey Shore to take a look at the devastation hurricane Sandy left behind. Desiree and James met a couple who were deeply affected by Sandy and decided to give up their romantic dinner date to them. Most of their date was focused on this other couple and their wedding anniversary and not really on Desiree and James, but giving up their date seemed to have helped them grow closer and she gave him the rose.

At the cocktail party Desiree became the kissing bandit again. Bryden isn’t sure that his feelings are where they should be at this point in the process so he takes her aside and puts it all on the table to see where her head is at. Desiree tells him that she wants him to stay and he feels a bit better, but still has doubts. So who went home tonight? Zach Kalter was the unfortunate man who went home empty handed.
