‘Britain’s Got Talent’ review: Luminites, Joseph Hall, and Pre Skool rule third live show
Going into Thursday’s “Britain’s Got Talent” performance show, we have to be honest: We weren’t particularly optimistic about anything on the show, especially after the brilliant performance of Jack Carroll and Arisxandra during the first two nights of the show.
Unfortunately, we can’t exactly say that this was any better than we were hoping for. Most of the acts were either disappointing, or quite frankly bad. There were three acts that actually made a good impression, though, which is probably going to make for a predictable results show a little later in the evening.
Freelusion – Well, this group definitely got the short end of the stick when it comes to performing first. We knew they had no shot at advancing based on screen time, but as a geek, we rather loved this. We would have actually paid to see this, which we can’t say about many of these acts.
Robbie Kennedy – We thought for sure that Robbie would be in the primo spot, since we all know how much Simon Cowell loves his singers. The funny thing is that we really liked how simple this was. We loved the fact that it was just a guy and his guitar, but the negative was that the Bryan Adams song was certainly predictable, and there’s nothing really about this guy that screams “I want to be a star.”
Stevie Pink – We don’t know what anyone else expected from this guy, mostly because he was a total cheeseball who wore a ton of pink and tried to make a guy appear out of thin air. The trick was okay, but we’ve seen it a dozen times before. As for him throwing the producers under the bus? Hilarious, and probably true. It’s very hard to be a magic act on this show.
Pre-Skool – Before these kids even came on the show, the entire audience acted like the Beatles were about to come on stage. We just don’t get the appeal of kid dance acts in the same way as other people, mostly because the real talent here is just of the “aww” factor rather than of the “wow!” variety. We will at least give them some credit: It wasn’t the best routine ever, but it may have been the best routine by kids of this age ever on any competition show. They’ll probably move on.
Thomas Bounce – We have so much sympathy for jugglers and we have a hard time watching them, mostly out of fear that they are just going to mess up. We know that he doesn’t really have any shot at making it through to the next round, so hopefully he at least managed to get a little bit of exposure for himself in doing this show.
Rosie O’Sollivan – Boy, can Rosie ever sing! We don’t like seeing singer after singer make it all the way to the finale, but with the lineup this week being by and large weak, it’s really hard to argue against a singer like Rosie making it far … even with a predictable song choice like “When a Man Loves a Woman.”
Joseph Hall – No offense to many other acts here, but there’s a reason why we root for a dancer like him. He’s literally worked his entire life for this, and did all of these moves himself and with no help. That is so hard when there’s no fill-in, and no way to cover your back. At the time of his performance, he was #1 on the night by far.
MC Boy – It’s always entertaining to watch someone think they are good when they really are not, and he’s the perfect example of that. The thing that we are most surprised about is how a train wreck like him got so late in the broadcast. The real losers here are the people who have to act on stage like they are having a good time to this, while wondering where in the world their life went wrong.
Luminates – In closing this show, all this group needed to do was a pretty good job in order to have a real shot at advancing. Luckily, they were more than that. Jack Carroll now has serious competition at the top of the mountain as to who is going to win this competition over the weekend. A moving, original, and fantastic performance. Standing ovations all around.
