‘American Idol’ notes: Adam Lambert’s ‘Love Wins Over Glamour’ at Life Ball 2013
Do we have a new song from Adam Lambert? It certainly looks that way! While at the Life Ball event this weekend in Vienna (which is designed to raise awareness for AIDS and money to help fight against the disease), the former “American Idol” star, who may be under consideration to become a judge next season, debuted a full version of a song entitled “Love Wins Over Glamour.” Adam wrote on his Twitter that this song was written specifically for the event, so we don’t want to speculate yet as to whether or not this is intended to go on a future record, or if it will be released as a charity single at some point.
The first thing we have to talk about is that costume in the video below, which is fantastic and adds yet another international flavor to what was an international performance. The voice-overs in the middle of the song were a little distracting, but they may be important, and we don’t want to be one of those people who sits here and bashes something simply because we don’t understand the language.
It’s still going to take a few more listens to really get a sense of how much we like the song, but it has everything that we could ever ask for in an Adam Lambert track: Strong lyrics, a catchy beat, and an element that yields for great live performances. It also references in a sense his own signature style, and at the same time consciously admitting that while this may be important to him, it pales deeply in comparison to what he is really trying to say.

I don’t speak German myself, but I read that the voiceover was explaining that Adam had asked to participate because he has friends who are HIV+ and so helping out related causes is a personal interest of his.

Adam’s success overseas shows how homophobic America is. He won Favorite International Singer in China. He beat artists who have been around a lot longer than Adam has. He has only been to China a few times. I think what works against Adam is that he is so sexy, homophobes don’t want to be attracted to a gay man. American radio has about a dozen artists on rotation. Other artists don’t get played on top 40. Rarely do I hear a ballad on the radio. It would be great if this is released as a single so djs will feel a moral obligation to play it when the money earned goes to charity. Once Adam gets a lot of airplay for one of his songs, it will be a lot harder for the djs to exclude him.
I have watched Adam’s full journey on idol from his audition to the finale. Even if he didn’t have such a fabulous voice, his amazing perfomances would warrant him being a judge and mentor. He worked out great arrangements with the band. He used lighting and the band in his perfomances to enhance the overall experience. He was a professional when all others were still amateurs. One of the reasons people aren’t watching Idol is that there are no “performances;” we just see singers. They stand at the microphone and sing ballads. The singers are forced to sing out of their genre, then the judges say “show us who you are as an artist.” Idol can’t do the production that EDM requires. That prevents the singers from singing current songs. Many artists are not allowing their songs to be used on idol because the singers aren’t performing songs. Zeppelin and U2 allowed Adam to do their songs, but not other contestants. Clay would not be a good judge. He doesn’t understand “performance quality.” Adam can transform Idol. He should become a producer so he would have input over the entire show.

I have no idea how many times I have listened to every song, every performance by Adam. I am one of those insanely devoted Glamberts after all. This just blew me away. I out it on my ipod immediately and I have danced myself silly. I so hope we get a studio version of this song. I could see this being Adam’s biggest hit so far and it makes me more excited for what comes next.

Matt I love LWOG I can’t stop watching the YT video. Adam actually performed it live which is almost nonexistent in today’s world. Adam also cowrote the song. We are all hoping it will be available on itunes at some point. The upstream was excellent and the live performance was PERFECTION.

I really love the song, Love Wins Over Glamour! Fantastic beat, can’t get the words and melody out of my head! Adam’s vocals fantastic as usual. He did the background vocals as well I hear so it was all Adam. His energy is wonderful, the costume exquisite to match a drop dead gorgeous guy. Waiting for it on iTunes immediately please!
Oh yes, about the Idol Judge thing….Adam would make a fantastic judge. He wants to help those contestants focus and reach their goals. He has said this many times. The one time he mentored he was spot on with critiques, honest but kind. He didn’t hold back …he told them what they needed to hear and the contestants appreciated it. Since Adam has made it known he would like the gig I hope AI gives him a shot this season.

Awesome performance, love the costume. Didn’t like the people talking over him at times, but his voice comes through no matter what. Why isn’t this guy a huge star i America. Oh yes, he has more words, rhythm, and dynamics in the song than young America can handle. Thanks Matt for keeping us informed about Adam. Do you think he should be on IDOL? I’m on the fence, but can you imagine a performance or two with the contestants? It would be epic.

Adam’s been performing worldwide for months mainly Asia and Europe He performed on The Voice of China and opening of Chinese Idol he is also scheduled to perform at finale of Chinese Idol. He’s working on new album now.

Similar message to Adam’s song IF I HAD YOU. Without LOVE, money and fame don’t matter. I love that Adam lives his life in a way he can be proud of, supporting friends’ efforts in their fields, supporting good causes, encouraging individuals to live their lives with love, joy, bravery. This song was written specifically for the Life Ball; Europe’s biggest charity event. So happy that they invited Adam over to Vienna Austria to sing it for them. It was an amazing performance. Very catchy beat to it. Definitely will buy it as soon as it is on iTunes. And I don’t believe it will be on his future album since the song was written for Life Ball to benefit charity.

Love this song!! It’s catchy and sticks in my head. The lyrics are amazing as are all Adam’s songs. No 6 words over and over again like Rhianna’s songs and most songs on Top 40. Adam truly does do sophisticated pop!! His vocals in this song are top notch. Looking forward to buying it on I tunes and further supporting the Life Ball charity. Adam Lambert commands the stage and all eyes are on him. Would love to see him judge on Idol. He always appears to be truly happy with life and his attitude and smile are infectious.

Adam Lambert looks gorgeous and his voice here is superb. Well it always is! Its time for the US to wake up and get this man on the radio like he deserves. Internationally he is killing it with performances over there-well he deserves that here. I freakin LOVE the song-it will be a great hit for Adam if its released and it can raise mega money for charity. In just minutes after his performance there were over 17,000 tweets on his social wall at the event!

this had me on the opening beat, love the song and can’t stop listening to it. Now I really want to buy this and yeah if the proceeds go to the cause even better. Lyrics are so good and of course there’s a meaning to it too. Thanks Adam for another awesome song.
