For those of you who were legitimately fearing for Olivia Benson following the end to “Law & Order: SVU” season 14 on Wednesday night, have no fear: We finally have an answer.
In a post on her Twitter account on Saturday, Mariska Hargitay made it official that she will be back for another season this coming fall. The only reason there was any sort of concern at all from the show’s fan community was because the finale ended with a gun put to her character’s head. We don’t know if it was fired or not, but this was enough to make just about everyone shake in their boots about her future on the show.
While we do not know the finer details surrounding Mariska’s new contract just yet, we anticipate that she will be around just as much this season as for season 14, though her schedule will probably be constructed in a specific way so that she still has a little bit of time in order to relax with her new family.
“Law & Order: SVU” will be back in its familiar Wednesday night time-slot at 9:00 p.m. Eastern for the fall, with the one remaining question being whether or not the series is going to be able to survive for a 16th season after a slow trickle-down in the ratings. Plus, this show has just frankly been on for a very long time.
