‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6 finale review: A breakthrough and a departure

Big Bang TheoryCould there really be four relationships that last on “The Big Bang Theory”? Going into this finale, we found ourselves asking this question almost as often as Sheldon feels the need to spit out “important factoids” on life. The truth is that almost any group of four friends will end up having this problem, especially when these people are all (with the exception of Penny) geeky on some level, and stuffed full of all sorts of social anxieties.

In this case, it may be possible that the writing on the wall was there for Raj and Lucy. The two had made some progress together, but the issue was in part that he tried to move her along too much, too soon. She was not ready to take on this sort of commitment, and while they were both damaged goods, she may have been more damaged than him in that she had no “quick fix” to help herself like he had with alcohol.

Speaking of which, we turn to the night’s biggest shocker and the biggest relief: While Penny was comforting Raj through his breakup, the two realized that he hadn’t had anything to drink since the night before. The mental block is finally broken! It’s really about time, and this means that the character will finally have a shot now at moving forward with his life in a new, interesting way.

As for the Leonard storyline, we have to say that it was a little ho-hum now that we saw it play out. This is basically the same thing that the show has done time and time again, in making a character leave for a few months, and then coming back in the fall. Heck, we saw this earlier this year with Howard. There has to be a different way to shake things up at some point.

Even though Raj is seemingly back on the market now, are you thrilled to see that there has at least been some progress made when it comes to his life? If you want to read what Kunal Nayyar had to say about this episode, all you have to do is click here.
