‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: Shonda Rhimes on shocking Calzona story

When it comes to Callie and Arizona on “Grey’s Anatomy,” it really feels almost as though the drama seems to alternate for them every other year. If you think back to season 7, the two had their wedding, but they also had Callie getting pregnant and the car accident that nearly took her life. Then, last season things were mostly quiet for them and they engaged in some fun, lighthearted times.

However, much of that has changed this year. First, we had the dramatic and at times tragic story revolving around Arizona’s leg, and the problems that have come out of in the relationship with that. So what is following that up? Another tragic story, though this time revolving more around speculation that Arizona could cheat on Callie with a doctor who has arrived on the scene, played by “White Collar” alum Hilarie Burton.

What may surprise you is that based on what show creator Shonda Rhimes had to say recently in an interview with TV Guide, she is not even 100% sold one way or another yet just as to where she expects to see the future of the couple go:

“We could present them with some really complex challenges and allow them to deal with them and see some interesting things … I don’t know where they’re going to end up out of this, I really don’t. But I do know that all of us are really excited about it. It’s a thrilling and complex story for these characters.”
