‘Girls’ season 3 spoilers: Allison Williams on departure of Christopher Abbott

GirlsLena Dunham and some other members of the “Girls” writing staff have certainly had their hands full over the course of the past several months. They surely had a plan in mind for how season 3 was going to go, but then so much of that ended up changing courtesy of the news that Christopher Abbott, who plays the character of Charlie, would be leaving the show due to some drama behind the scenes on the show.

This means effectively that the show is really being forced to take a back-to-basics approach with some of their storytelling, in particular for the character who was tied so closely to Marnie in Charlie. According to TVLine, Allison Williams first of all said that the departure of Abbot had “a huge effect on our show and [on the character of] Marnie specifically,” and also explained that despite the surprise that came with the sudden change to the show behind the scenes, she was still confident that everything would work out when it comes to the actual show itself:

“The minute I heard the news, there wasn’t a single doubt in my mind that [the show’s writing staff] would come up with great stuff for Marnie to be doing. And what we’ve done so far and what we’re continuing to do is so excellent.”

Williams also added that his departure does take Marnie in many ways back to square one, where she will have to try and figure out the rest of her life once again from a completely different sort of perspective. Once again, we imagine that this may not be the easiest journey in the world for her, but is one that could be very much rewarding in the end if she ever manages to figure it all out.
