ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 finale spoilers: Series boss on Castle, Beckett’s ‘road map’

CastleIf there is some good news that we have to share about the upcoming season 5 finale of “Castle,” it is that we are not looking at yet another hour that is going to contain explosions, near-death experiences, or catastrophic events that will in any way compare to what the ABC show has done the past two years. However, this is not to say that the show’s creator / executive producer is looking to shy away from including any big moments at all.

Speaking about the finale in a new interview with TVLine, Andrew W. Marlowe tried to lay out the plan in which he developed for the end of the season, including how he wanted Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) to be in a very particular position by the time that this episode came to a close:

“You have a great map, but it’s like driving through fog a little bit – the closer you get, the clearer it gets. So about seven or eight episodes out, I knew ballpark where I wanted to land … I wanted a quieter, more emotional finale, without the fireworks. In this one, something comes out of left field that both characters have to wrestle with, something that would be a challenge to any relationship.”

One thing that we know for sure these two people are going to have to deal with? What Castle’s ex-wife Meredith told Beckett earlier on in the season which is that while Rick may be a great man in many ways, he still possesses either an inability or a lack of interest in opening up to other people. In order for these two characters to really move forward, this is something that he is going to have to learn how to do.

What do you think about having a finale that is all about a simple, character-driven finale? If you want to read even more scoop from Marlowe, you can do so over here.
