When it comes to the new trailer for “The Killing” season 3, we have to give AMC credit for doing a pretty smart thing. Rather than actually try to use the acclaim or the success of the first two seasons (which varies depending on how you look at it) in order to promote the upcoming episodes, they instead opt to promote the show almost as if it is a brand-new series.
For an example of this very thing, take note of how the network is careful in here to reference the fact that this is the same network that brought “The Walking Dead” to air, an obvious plea to viewers to check out this show if they have not already. With the mention that there is a serial killer on the loose, the hope here is obviously to bring in an audience interested in seeing some thrills, and then finding a way to keep them around with a story that is much more grounded in reality than one fighting zombies and men trying to attach weapons as extensions to their body. (The ads may not be fully accurate of the show, but it needs the ratings!)
Peter Sarsgaard is the most noteworthy addition to the show this year, but there will be plenty of other new faces that turn up. After all, we are dealing with what will be a new show this time around, with the only real measures of continuity coming via our lead detectives in Linden and Holder.
What do you think about this clip, and does it reinvigorate your interest in a show that many have forgotten about? If you want to see some even more creepy goodness from “The Killing” season 3, you can do so at the link here.
