‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: Yvonne Strahovski returning as Hannah McKay

If you enjoyed seeing Yvonne Strahovski on “Dexter” this past fall, many of your long-held suspicions are now confirmed: the former “Chuck” star is coming back on the Showtime drama for a multi-episode arc later this summer.

Entertainment Weekly first reported this news, and considering that they are holding a live chat with her a little later in the day, it is possible that we will have more news about what Hannah McKay’s role in the new season will be. The last we saw of the character during the season 7 finale, she was breaking out of prison using a few tools at her disposal, and she left Dexter a memento to remember her by at his front door. What brings her back? Considering how Deb feels about her, and considering the choices that Dexter made, we’re really not sure.

Of course, the news of Strahovski’s return creates an interesting tear in our psyche. While we are enormous fans of “Chuck” and the actress in general (mostly because we have to cheer for anyone involved in the “Mass Effect” universe), we always felt that Lumen was the woman that Dexter was best with … mostly because it is hard to have a real relationship with a woman who is trying to kill your sister. While it would be great to see both Yvonne and Julia Stiles within the span of a few episodes, there’s no word on if the latter is ever going to return to the show. Hannah to us is more interesting as the ultimate female villain than the love interest, and maybe this is when she will take on this role completely as the woman who Dexter needs to kill, but struggles to do so.
