‘Bates Motel’ episode 4 preview: The Shelby mystery picks up

Bates MotelSometimes, it cannot be easy to be Norman Bates. If there is one thing that we’ve learned from watching the promos for next week’s all-new episode of “Bates Motel,” it is clearly this. Following the revelation on Monday that Shelby has a mysterious prisoner in his basement, and may therefore be behind some of the cryptic and horrible drawings that he and Emma were investigating, our main character is going to be in an interesting position. You already have sociopaths tendencies that make you hart to trust, but what happens when nobody believes a word that you are saying?

Early on in the preview below, it is pretty apparent that Norma is not too keen on believing what her son is saying here, which is probably only going to further along his turn towards the even darker side. To make matters even worse, the more he speaks out about what he may have seen, the more than likely that Shelby is going to start getting even more suspicious of Norman.

It’s not much of a synopsis (mostly because showrunner Carlton Cuse knows a thing or two about keeping things a secret courtesy of his time on “Lost”), but you can check out the description for this episode nonetheless below:

“Norma deals with distractions as her suspicions grow about certain town residents.”

Just in the past few weeks alone, “Bates Motel” has done a pretty solid job of introducing us to the world of these characters, and adding depth that we did not know was going to be there. Of course, the principal question for the show moving forward is how do you continue to tell a story effectively for several years when everyone already knows the ending? It’s something that has doomed many a prequel before, even if this is in a slightly different universe than “Psycho.”
