‘Glee’ season 4: Cory Monteith enters rehab; Lea Michele, show lend support

Cory MonteithBased on the latest news here, it appears as though Cory Monteith won’t be appearing in the final two episodes of “Glee” this season as Finn Hudson. Instead, the actor has made the voluntary decision to enter a treatment facility over some substance abuse-related issues. This is not the first time that the actor has gone to rehab, as he struggled with addiction often in his teenage years long before getting on this show. However, it does mark his first visit since becoming a household name.

In issuing a statement to People Magazine, his publicist was very honest in explaining the situation:

“[Cory has] voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction. He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”

Meanwhile, Monteith’s on and off-screen love interest Lea Michele also had the following to say, in what are actually some rare public comments about her co-star as anything other than another actor on the show:

“I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

With the understanding (as mentioned above) that there are still two episodes left of “Glee” season 4 to film, it is unlikely that we will see Finn in either of these, and his absence will probably be explained within a line or two. For those hoping to see a good bit of Finn / Rachel at the end of the season, this may be disappointing; however, it’s hard not to do anything other than applaud Cory for making this very bold decision to seek help, even when he knows that much of the world is watching him.
