‘American Idol’ notes: Jessica Sanchez’s ‘Tonight,’ Colton Dixon, and Casey Abrams

American IdolConsider this the moment that many Jessica Sanchez fans have been waiting for: the debut of her new single “Tonight.” We know that it has a sound that is a little different than what she performed on “American Idol” for much of last season, but we’re rather thrilled that she changed things up here with the awareness of what is actually popular on the radio these days.

We weren’t sure whether or not we would love this single following the news that she was going to be working with Ne-Yo, but “Tonight” really is a pretty phenomenal track. It’s catchy, has a great dance beat, and the two singers have great chemistry while keeping the lyrics fairly appropriate here for a teenage girl.

There’s no guarantee that any singer for this show having a hit radio single, but Sanchez probably has the best chance here with any song since Phillip Phillips’ “Home.”

Cotlon Dixon returns – “American Idol” is wasting no time at all giving their season 11 stars some love. After all, it’s just been reported that Colton Dixon will be back on the show next week performing a song from his own debut album. The “Never Gone” singer will perform a currently undisclosed track on the show next week, at least according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Casey Abrams does, too! – This week, we’re going to see more than Jessica performing on the results show: there’s also going to be an appearance from a certain season 10 star in Casey. With it being Lennon / McCartney week, it should come as no surprise that he is performing “I Saw Her Standing There” (even though we would’ve preferred something from his album).

Casey has performed the song before, as evidenced by the video below. He also covered “Elanor Rigby” as a bonus track for the album.
