‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9, episode 17 preview: Why Owen decides to [spoiler]

Kevin McKiddIf you have already had an opportunity to see some of the promo footage already for Thursday night’s new “Grey’s Anatomy” episode, then you may not be aware of what is going to be a pretty big watershed moment for the show: after trying to lead Seattle Grace in the right direction, failing spectacularly when it comes to signing off on a charter plane, and then trying to do so again, it appears as though Dr. Owen Hunt is going to fall on his own sword.

So what would ultimately drive him to that? For evidence of this, the first sneak peek from the episode (entitled “Transplant Wasteland”) comes into play. In this video, you can see Jackson and Owen get into a pretty heated discussion as to specific roles in the establishment moving forward. Owen says that he has heard some gossip about his future, and as someone not used to seeing Jackson as a superior, there is of course some tension that is obvious to pretty much everyone almost right away.

To make matters even worse for Owen, at some point during the debate Derek decides to jump in, and his feedback during this discussion is not really appreciated in the least. As a matter of fact, it ends up causing things to get ugly when he reminds Owen of just why he is responsible for the current predicament, and this is when he makes the decision to walk out the door. We do believe there is a chance that Kevin McKidd’s character could come back, but there will probably need to be some major convincing done first.

Do you think that Owen’s decision to “quit” is going to be anywhere near permanent? If you want to check out some other “Grey’s Anatomy” scoop when it comes to the future of Jo and Alex, you can see some of this by heading on over to the link here.
