‘Glee’ season 4 spoilers: Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Matthew Morrison’s next songs

Chris ColferEven though you may have to wait for a few more weeks in order to see the “Glee” season 4 episode “Girls (and Boys) on Film,” we now have a treat to help make the process of waiting a little bit easier: the official song list for the episode.

While we admittedly thought at first that an episode themed just around songs from the movies sounded better suited for an “American Idol” theme week than an episode of scripted television, many of these picks are actually pretty inspired. For example, having Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) perform “Come What May” from “Moulin Rouge” is something brilliant, and we’re not sure if we have seen a musical number on the show all season long that has been so anticipated.

Meanwhile, we are going to see a pair of songs featuring Will (Matthew Morrison), likely to make up for his extended time away from the show. First, he and New Directions are going to perform Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes,” which makes us wonder right away if they are going to reenact the scene from “Say Anything.” (Considering that this is one of our favorite songs of all time, we certainly wouldn’t mind it.) Following that, he and Emma (Jayma Mays) will be singing “You’re All the World to Me” from the musical “Royal Wedding,” a song we are much less familiar with.

You’ve likely already heard that a pair of other songs are being done in the episode in “Shout,” the 500th musical number preformed on the show, and also “Footloose,” since it was shown in the first preview. The return of the boys vs. girls competition happens here, with the ladies of New Directions taking on a “Moulin Rouge” song in “Sparkling Diamonds” while the boys (hopefully including Samuel Larsen, who was strangely MIA from Will’s wedding) are doing on “Old Time Rock n’ Roll” from “Risky Business” along with “Danger Zone” from “Top Gun.” If you are a Tom Cruise fan, this song will probably be paradise.
