‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8, episode 16 review: ‘Bad Crazy’ and Mike Tyson

On Monday night’s new “How I Met Your Mother” season 8 episode, we saw a very complicated dilemma for one Ted Mosby: how do you break up with a woman who is very likely to bite your head off at the very end of it? Jeanette was completely haywire, and the primary storyline this week revolved around her locking herself in Ted’s room as she suspected that he was having some sort of affair with Lily. (Yes, it was very, very bizarre.)

This overall was one of the strangest episodes the show has ever put on, and not all of it made sense. For example, Lily has long prided herself on being someone who dishes out tremendous advice. So with that in mind, why in the world would she ever say it is a good idea to stay with Abby Elliot’s character for any sort of extended period of time? Her argument was that maybe Ted needed some crazy in his life for the time being … and based on the brief flash-forwards that we saw involving flames, it is not going to end well.

The other story was very simple, but also a little bit more entertaining: Robin had never held Marvin before, and she ended up spending 17 years of her life keeping a secret just what happened for a brief span of time in which Lily entrusted her to take care of the child. Basically, it involved Mike Tyson (making a surprise appearance as a guest star) along with a visit to a strip club. It had no real bearing in anything, but served as another fine example of how this show effectively plays with chronology.
