‘Homeland’ season 3: Claire Danes touches on writers’ dilemma

Claire DanesWhen you have a show that is as fantastic as “Homeland,” and when you also have so many talented writers as a part of the staff, it is inevitable that sooner or later, some of them are going to want to go off and do some projects of their own. This is something we have touched on quite a bit over the course of the past several weeks, as the writers who end up landing new pilot projects elsewhere could end up leaving and thus changing the very fabric of the show being the scenes.

At the moment, one of the biggest question marks for the show surrounds the future of Meredith Stiehm, who has penned specifically two of the series’ best overall episodes in both “The Weekend” along with “New Car Smell.” She has an intriguing new pilot for FX at the moment in “The Bridge,” which is about a dead body found on a bridge between Texas and Mexico and some of them implications that come along with that. This is great news for her, but Stiehm also admits to Entertainment Weekly that if the series does get picked up, it will be difficult to leave the series that first made her into a hot commodity:

“It’s a high-cost problem … It’s so hard to get your own series. But, at the same time, what kind of idiot leaves Homeland right now?”

Series star Claire Danes has also been a major advocate of keeping Stiehm on board, which led to her saying the following to the website:

“I’m worried because I adore her and I think her talent is rare. She’s been crucial in defining who this person is. I’m sure there are other brilliant women out there who could contribute wonderful things but I just like her! She asked me to talk to [‘Bridge’ star Diane Kruger] about my experience working in television and hopefully encourage her to accept the role. And I talked to her for about an hour and was really selling her on it. I thought, ‘Wait a minute—what did I just do?’ I love Meredith and I support her totally but of course I don’t want her to go anywhere.”

Stay tuned, as we’ll have more on the future for “The Bridge” as it unfolds. Meanwhile, be sure to also visit the link here if you want to find out some more scoop on “Homeland” season 3.
