Chris Christie steals Joe Flacco’s thunder on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’

Late ShowPrior to the start of “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Monday night, we were fairly convinced that the person everyone was going to be talking about would be none other than Super Bowl XLVII MVP Joe Flacco, who was getting an opportunity to take part in his first late-night TV interview. However, what ended up happening instead was an interview between Letterman and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie that was so bizarre (and also so funny) that it was hard to remember that anything else really happened.

Before going on the show, Christie was obviously either informed that Letterman likes to make fun of him, or he just knew from watching the show himself that his weight was a frequent target of jokes. Therefore, not long into the interview last night the politician (who is rumored to be a contender for the 2016 Presidential race) took out a donut and started to eat it, saying that he didn’t know “this was going to be this long.”

While the next part of the interview is not shown in the video below, Letterman asked Christie whether or not he gets offended by all the jokes that are out there about his weight, and he says that he doesn’t mind so long as most of the jokes are funny. (He then went on to say that about 40% of Letterman’s jokes have actually made him laugh over the years.)

This is the second time in the past several months that the outspoken Governor has actually showed off a little bit more of a comical side. During a chat on “Saturday Night Live” late last year, Christie poked fun at New Jersey residents’ quick-tempered nature while also speaking positively about the Hurricane Sandy recovery effort.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with Christie’s politics, do you find this video funny? If you want to view Letterman’s Super Bowl commercial featuring Andrew Luck, you can do so over at the link here.
