‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8: Could Cobie Smulders reprise another role?

Cobie SmuldersWe know already that “How I Met Your Mother” is going to be returning for an ninth and final season next year, but looking beyond that it is certainly possible that Cobie Smulders could have another potential gig lined up if she wants it: “S.H.I.E.L.D,” the ABC pilot that will be based off of the famous team from “The Avengers.” The actress starred as Maria Hill in the Joss Whedon movie, and based on what the actress is saying now, she could find some time in her schedule to make an appearance or to at some point.

In speaking about the subject in a brand-new interview with IAmRogue.com, Smulders admitted that she has at least been approached about making a cameo appearance on the show if it is ultimately picked up to series:

“I can’t really say [more], but there are definite talks about it.”

Smulders is already confirmed to be reprising her role as Hill on the upcoming “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and really the only surprise to us when it comes to “How I Met Your Mother” is that the writers thus far have not decided to put in any meta jokes about the Marvel franchise. After all, these are the same people who had Cobie’s character of Robin dress up as Lara Croft in an attempt to try and win over Barney Stinson for “one last hookup” before he popped the question.

While we do not know for sure if Smulders is going to be interested in joining another TV show so soon after her time on the CBS sitcom is over, it does have to be rather nice to have the option available to you. We could see that some of it may eventually pertain to scheduling and locations, since we have to assume that either her or husband Taran Killam (“Saturday Night Live”) would at some point make a move to spend some more time together being that they currently spend much of the year working on separate coasts.

Do you want to see some more of the upcoming Robin-centered “How I Met Your Mother” episode? If so, be sure to check out the story here. Sadly, there is no new episode airing tonight on CBS.
