‘Glee’ season 4 song spoilers: Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss form a new boy band
Boy bands have recycled their way back to the top of the music business at the moment, so doesn’t it seem more than appropriate for “Glee” to jump all over the trend? We like to think so, since they have already covered some One Direction hits already in the past season.
Now, the likes of Darren Criss (Blaine), former boy band-er Kevin McHale (Artie), Blake Jenner (Ryder), Samuel Larsen (Joe), and Chord Overstreet (Sam) are all teaming up for a new performance for Thursday night’s “Sadie Hawkins” episode that is a little bit more original: the TLC hit “No Scrubs.” Can we really explain just how entertaining we find this? It’s easily the most creative song of the entire episode, and we say this partially in reference to the claims that the show ripped off the Jonathan Coulton arrangement of “Baby Got Back” for the episode.
So why is the group getting together? There may not be any sort of reason for it at all, at least save for the fact that there is a school dance implemented into the episode and they often have performances mixed in here. Just take a look at last year’s “Prom-A-Saurus,” which at least had a few performances that went well with the actual theme of the dance.
The only real scoop that we have on the episode’s story thus far is that Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) organized this dance largely so that she and Blaine (Darren Criss) could get closer together, even though the latter is gay and is clearly still wrapped up in his feelings for Kurt after cheating on him earlier this year.
Is this your favorite “Sadie Hawkins” performance yet? Be sure to also check out the story here, as you are going to have an opportunity to hear another pair of surprising songs from this episode.
