NBC’s ‘Smash’ season 2 spoilers: Check out the latest trailer!
At NBC’s Television Critics Association event, the network did more than just cart out “Smash” executive producer Josh Safran in order to talk about the show’s second season (and remind everyone that they have made some massive changes from the first go-around); they also shared a new trailer that gives us some serious reasons for optimism.
What we like about this trailer above all else is that it really does not waste any time at all in reminding us just what made us want to root for this show in the first place: the story is primarily about Broadway, but the cast of characters are people we want to see involved in the world of the stage. Karen and Ivy already seem to each be a little bit more consistent, and the addition of a new love interest for Katharine McPhee’s character within this world actually helps to keep the show focused.
In addition to that, we have a strong musical number from Jennifer Hudson, some great zingers from rehearsals, and (thankfully) the sight of Julia not drowning in a sea of scarves. The show has a great premise last year and the musical numbers were second to none, but we soon learned that does not a show make. We’re honestly still surprised that NBC is using “Golden Globe nominated” in their trailer, almost as a reminder of how terribly the Globes got it wrong. Luckily, this looks this time around like it could be the show that we all thought would surface after the pilot early last year.
Does this trailer give you a whole new reason to be excited about “Smash” season 2? If you want to catch some other assorted highlights from the show’s TCA panel, you can do so by visiting the story over here.
