‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: The struggle for Nina Dobrev’s Elena

Nina DobrevElena Gilbert has not exactly had an easy time on “The Vampire Diaries” season 4 thus far; and based on what we are hearing now, it is not going to be getting much easier anytime soon. After all, she has a vampire that she cares about in Damon (Ian Somerhalder) who she is unfortunately also sire-bonded to, and her relationship with Stefan (Paul Wesley) is in a pretty terrible place because of it.

So what is a new vampire to do about all of this? Speaking to Hollywood.com, executive producer Julie Plec explains that one of the priorities moving forward for Nina Dobrev’s character is going to be trying to figure out just how to handle both Salvatore brothers, and there is also another issue here known as Jeremy that we have not really talked about just yet:

“Elena’s mindset is basically a combination of feeling a sense of loss of not being able to be around Damon and also this profound sense of guilt for how much she’s hurt Stefan … Equal to that, a protectiveness of Jeremy. She’s feeling very unsettled that she’s not there where he is in helping him go through the motions to uncover the rest of his hunter marks. So she’s got a lot that she’s concerned about.”

As for what else is going to be coming up for the character this season, much of it is still under wraps save for the sire bond storyline. We assume that there will be a continued effort to discover Silas and the cure, but even when they find it, what is Elena going to do about it then? Being a vampire has already changed her, and it could still do quite a bit more to her psyche by the time that everything is completely said and done.
