‘Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen’ review: Did John stop CJ’s reign?

Top Chef: SeattleFollowing Wednesday night’s new episode of “Top Chef: Seattle,” it was pretty easy to be torn about John Tesar’s elimination. From one standpoint, it felt as though he was hosed in being forced to do a final cook-off against Lizzie to stay in the competition, mostly because her dish was even more of a disaster than his was. However, at the same time Lizzie is far more likable as a contestant, and it was easy to root for her going up against a man who spoke earlier in the season about being named the most-hated chef in Dallas.

Luckily for John, he did receive one last chance to save himself following the show during “Last Chance Kitchen,” where he squared off with a man in CJ who has become a dominating force ever since being sent home weeks ago alongside Tyler. If there was someone who we thought was destined to beat him, John was that person.

Unfortunately for John, things just did not end up working in his favor. After all of his complaining about pots, it was almost ironic that he had to cook his dish this time with things purchased from a yard sale. His food still looked pretty good to us, though, and to be honest, we don’t really care whether or not our chef is a patron saint or not if they make delicious food. Once again, CJ is a more likable winner, but at the same time we really want to see a new chef win this season rather than one of these returning cooks. Luckily, we still at the moment see a final two of Kristen and Brooke happening.

Are you glad that John is out now for good (as we’re assuming America will not vote him back in), and that CJ is still alive? If you want to read our most-recent “Top Chef” episode review, you can do so over here.
