‘Downton Abbey’ season 3: Hey, at least Dan Stevens has this…

Dan StevensIf there is one word you could use to describe the last week for Dan Stevens, it is probably “frustration.” (Warning: the following contains spoilers for American readers.) While from one standpoint you are probably thoroughly excited about the year coming up for you, on the other hand you are probably getting a number of nasty tweets from people who are a little bit upset over what happened on “Downton Abbey.” Fans have not taken particularly well to the news that Stevens’ Matthew Crawley was killed during a car accident, especially since the news has come out that this was really his decision, and the character had to die because he was not interested in returning to the show even for a few episodes.

However, at least Stevens may have something to smile about now. GQ UK has published their annual list of the best-dressed men in Britain this week, and the actor was at the top of the list over such people as James Bond (in Daniel Craig) and a sparkly vampire (in Robert Pattinson). Meanwhile, singer Ed Sheeran was named the worst-dressed man of the year, which is probably the opposite of what he was thinking about when he wrote “The A-Team.”

Will this ease the pain over the “Downton Abbey” backlash? Probably not, but it has to make Stevens feel at least okay about himself. The actor has stayed off of social media ever since the show’s season 3 Christmas special, and has been filling his time with performances of “The Heiress” on Broadway alongside Jessica Chastain.

What do you think: is Stevens deserving of the honor, and do you wonder if there is a part of him that regrets his decision to leave “Downton Abbey” following the backlash? If you haven’t read much when it comes to season 4 spoilers just yet, you can do so over here.
