‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8: More on Robin’s big moment

How I Met Your MotherFor this New Year’s Eve-themed “How I Met Your Mother” story, we are placing the focus entirely on the concept of love, in particular a certain element of the famed proposal that happened at the end of the winter finale “The Final Page”: Robin’s dress. It may seem like a rather trivial thing to focus on when it comes to the overall story, but next to the Ducky Tie and the Slutty Pumpkin costume, this may be one of the more memorable outfits worn on the show over the years (and for a serious rather than funny reason).

So was there anything that significant behind the red gown? Entertainment Weekly recently turned to designer Reiko Kurumada, and she actually suggested that as much as we felt that the dress stood out, they also wanted it to feel natural and not that distracting a presence from the scene as a whole with Barney:

“That specific dress was perfect for the engagement scene. We didn’t want to take away from that very special, poignant moment between Barney and Robin, while still illustrating Robin’s classic, timeless, natural beauty … The dress is so elegantly simple, while still making the style impact we wanted by the gorgeous color and delicate bead work.”

Regardless of what the intention here ultimately was, we cannot imagine the dress and the proposal being any better on the show. It was the culmination of many years of pining between the two characters, and it is building up now to an epic conclusion regarding Ted finally meeting the future mother of his children. As for whether or not Robin and Barney get married at the end of this year or during the series finale, that is still to be seen (though we are willing to still debate about it).
