Times are changing in the world of “Smash,” and just in case you wanted even more evidence of this very thing, all you have to do is check out the new cast photo just released by NBC. There are old faces gone (goodbye, Ellis!), new faces (hello, Jennifer Hudson!), and a general sort of tone here that already feels a little different.
For a prime example of that, just check out the brand-new cast photo released by NBC. While it may just be a trivial thing, it is worth noting here that most of the cast members actually look a little bit more relaxed here, and there is less of a showcase on the artificial Broadway glamour that didn’t line up with the show’s characters always during the first season. We like how these people are performers, but they are presented more here as ordinary people.
Hopefully, this is just the first step of many to help “Smash” get back to the level of hype that it was at prior to the show premiering last year. If you remember, this was at one point one of the buzziest new series around. However, it took a bit of beatdown earlier this spring over some convoluted storytelling, and for characters who would actually differently from one week to the next. All of this culminated with a questionable Golden Globe nomination over the likes of “Community,” “Louie,” and “The Big Bang Theory,” and it has not really been the best week ever for the likes of Katharine McPhee and company.
What do you think about this picture, and do you still have some semblance of hope that “Smash” season 2 is going to deliver some knockout entertainment? If you want to see a new preview for the show featuring the cast, you can do so over here.
