‘Downton Abbey’ season 3 spoilers: Joanne Froggatt talks Anna, Bates
Yesterday, we shared a brief video from “Nightline” featuring one Allen Leech talking about changes coming up for his character of Tom Branson on “Downton Abbey” season 3; and now, we are following that up courtesy of another popular actress in Joanne Froggatt (who may otherwise know for her role as Anna). We’ll start things off here with a note that the following is safe for American audiences hoping to remain spoiler-free until the show returns to PBS with new episodes on January 6.
Speaking as a part of a new interview with the show, Froggatt explained first and foremost why she feels like the show is successful, and it may be similar in some ways to how we feel about other period pieces (such as “Mad Men” or “Boardwalk Empire”) that manage to combine a little bit of history alongside an unpredictable storyline:
“Downton still has that element of surprise of it. You still feel the nostalgia … but you don’t know the outcome of the story.”
This interview was actually filmed early in production of season 3, which was also before the show aired in Britain. Therefore, at that time Froggatt did not even know whether or not her character was going to get the opportunity to see Mr. Bates outside of prison ever again. For those still unaware of what transpires, we can promise you that you will not be disappointed with anything that is coming up for Anna, as she goes through quite an emotional journey over the course of the eight episodes that have already aired.
