There are some characters on “The Vampire Diaries” who we know quite a bit about, whereas others are rooted in all sorts of mystery. For an example of the latter, just turn to the mystery wrapped inside of an enigma known as Professor Shane. When we first met the character earlier this season, it was not clear just how many ties he had both to vampire hunters and to witchcraft. However, this is all getting abundantly clear as time passes.
As it turns out, he may also have an additional motivation for many of his actions that has not quite been revealed just yet. According to a brand-new report from Zap2It, Shane is looking potentially to find a way through all of this to bring back someone from the dead that he cherishes deeply, even though there is still work to be done in trying to figure out how exactly this can happen.
What we are in part curious about at this point is whether or not “Vampire Diaries” executive producer Julie Plec is fully aware at the moment of the connections between the story being told this season and that of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.” Like with Shane, Dr. Frankenstein had his own obsessions of power and a lust for creation, though all he really ended up doing instead is creating a monster. We don’t think that Shane is even at all; he genuinely believes what he is doing is right, and that is what makes him a complicated character. He could end up creating evil within himself and even some other characters, but he may not even realize it before it is too late.
