‘The Amazing Race Canada’: Phil Keoghan confirms series; casting details coming

Just as we told you earlier in the day Sunday, it’s happening: “The Amazing Race Canada” is now officially on its way!

At the start of “The Amazing Race” (the American version) on CTV, host Phil Keoghan appeared in a special video making the simple announcement: the show is heading north of the border for the first time. Ultimately, this really should not come as much of a surprise to anyone, given that the franchise has already hosted editions featuring Australian, Filipino, and other Chinese and Asian contestants. Canada has also become rather intent as of late to create their own versions of Canadian reality shows, having already ordered “Big Brother Canada” and coming off successful versions of “America’s Got Talent” and “The Bachelor.”

In a statement, here is what CTV Programming and Sports President Phil King had to say:

“THE AMAZING RACE CANADA is a big show for a big network … Canadians deserve their own summer version, distinct from what is seen in fall and winter. With the incredible diversity, scope, beauty, and sheer land mass that Canada has to offer, THE AMAZING RACE CANADA will explore the world within Canada. It’s a perfect extension to an incredible brand, and a huge opportunity for racers, viewers, and advertisers.”

At the moment, there is not any information available when it comes to casting of the show, but we will share it once it becomes available. However, you have to imagine that interest will be high given that “Big Brother Canada” literally drew thousands of interested candidates. Canadians have been watching many of these shows for years, and they are now getting the chance to do the show themselves.
