‘Glee’ music preview: Hear Naya Rivera, Dianna Agron’s full cover of ‘Home’

Late last week, we shared a brief preview of the music from Tuesday night’s new episode of “Glee,” including a 30-second preview of the exciting new mash-up of “Home” by Phillip Phillips with the Simon & Garfunkel hit “Homeward Bound.” Now, we’ve heard the full version … and it’s fantastic.

At first, we were skeptical about music guru Alex Anders slowly down what was already a pretty slow song from the reigning “American Idol” champ, but it totally works in the context of what is being spoken about in the song. Dianna Agron’s Quinn leads off the song by narrating “Homeward Bound,” and it is actually Santana (Naya Rivera) that helps to lead into “Home” itself.

If we had to compare this to a performance we have heard before on the show sonically, we would say the brilliant but also sad version of “The Scientist” from “The Break-Up” earlier this season. Even with that, though, there are some other nice elements of the song here that you just don’t hear in any other song covered by the show before. Extra credit has to be given to Agron and Cory Monteith for each especially showing off how much improvement they have made vocally since the start of the show. This is not a particularly easy task, especially when you remember that this show already has Amber Riley and Naya Rivera on the cast.

As for the context of the show, all of the graduated seniors save for Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt (Chris Colfer) will be back in town for Thanksgiving Thursday night, and they are obviously going to get together to do a little bit of reminiscing on times gone by.

Overall, what do you think about this performance?
