‘The Newsroom’ season 2 spoilers: Look who’s covering Mitt Romney!

When you consider that “The Newsroom” typically focuses on events that happened a year or so before the episodes actually air, it should be no surprise what is going to be the focus of the upcoming second season: the Presidential election. With that in mind, Will McAvoy is going to need some more reporters out on the field, and we now know just who one of those people is going to be.

According to a new report from Deadline, Grace Gummer (“Gigantic”) has signed on for the recurring role Hallie Shea, who will be working with ACN in order to give them news straight from the Romney campaign. We see these sort of segments on cable news over time, so what will be interesting about this story in particular is just seeing how it ends up showing us the true reality involved in working a campaign on the road, whether it be busy travel schedules or trying to pry information out of key aides.

If the last name sounds familiar, it is because it should: like “Emily Owens M.D.” star Mamie Gummer, Grace is the daughter of legendary actress Meryl Streep, and this marks one of her first major casting coups following the aforementioned Nickelodeon series (though she has also guest-starred on an episode of “Smash”).

“The Newsroom” has just started shooting ten new episodes, which will likely air on HBO at some point in the summer of 2013. However, no firm date has been confirmed just yet, and this could change at any given moment.
