NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Cassadee Pope is excited; Cody Belew tells a ‘joke’
For the first time all season long on “The Voice,” the decision as to who stayed and who left the competition was entirely in America’s hands; and to make matters even more interesting, this was also the first time in the show’s history that the artists going home will be doing so regardless of what team they are on.
Following a lead-off performance from Christina Aguilera, the show then started off on what were the longest-winded results of all time. How slow can you announce America’s vote? After Bryan Keith and Sylvia Yacoub were the first two singers safe, we felt like everyone else on stage was going to just pass out from either exhaustion or nerves. So what did Carson Daly choose to do as a result? Make them wait longer! (Did anyone think that Cassadee Pope’s reaction to staying was a little too much?)
After some filler segments and a hilarious group performance involving the members of Team Cee Lo Green, we finally ended up learning just who were the artists in jeopardy of going home for the week: Michaela Paige, Melanie Martinez, Adriana Louise, and Cody Belew. Sound familiar? Well, it should, considering that these were the four coaches’ picks to advance last week. We personally would have advanced Michaela and Cody based on their overall performance history on the show, and we personally found the random shot that Cody took at Christina (joke or not) to be hysterical. Melanie was also saved, and that means that Michaela and Adriana were each sent home. We wonder: does Christina Aguilera feel bad about sending De’borah home now?
What did you think about the results Tuesday night?

Nice summary of tonight’s show. Thanks!
Praise the Lord that America still has the good sense to vote for Nicholas and Terry. Christina should feel STOOPID for eliminating De’Borah — this girl definitely did her fair share of screaming, but there was something likable and haunting about her sound quality, and her stage presence was natural, easy, and unique (unlike the rest of cookie-cutter Team Xtina, who you know practice their moves to excess in front of an effin’ mirror). Unfortunately, voters who believe that out-of-control screaming + pitchiness + riffing + quivering = stellar singing will continue to vote for Sylvia to stay on the show (are these voters tone deaf?!). How can the sound that comes out of her mouth be considered even remotely pleasant?
I like Cody although I’ve been underwhelmed by his singing for the most part, and Melanie gets by on her quirkiness alone. I had a feeling Adriana would be voted off (though I feel she should have stayed on over Sylvia and Dez) because her wailing is overplayed at this point, and Michaela kind of shot herself in the foot with her performance last night.
I wish it would boil down to Amanda, Nicholas, and Terry (no one from Team Xtina, please; they can ALL go home as far as I’m concerned). But with a heavy heart, I’m afraid I must accept that the final four will be Bryan, Trevin, Sylvia, and Cassadee. Bryan and Trevin get a pass, but I swear, anyone who wants to throw roses on stage for the latter two is audibly challenged.
