‘The Bachelorette’ debate: Should Cheryl Burke follow up Emily Maynard?

At least once or twice a year, we hear constant reports about various celebrities being attached to either “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette,” and more often than not it is just baseless speculation meant to either drum up attention for themselves or for the tabloids, who make a killing every year with not just casting rumors, but some of the tabloid stories that break afterwards when it comes to some contestants’ personal lives.

This past summer, it was Tim Tebow and Ryan Lochte who were discussed as possible candidates, even though one of them in Tebow never actually expressed any actual desire to take part in the show.

However, the latest name cropping up on the rumor mill is one that certainly has some level of possibility to it thanks to her interest and connection to ABC already: Cheryl Burke. “Dancing with the Stars” has featured personalities from “The Bachelor” franchise before, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy even starred on the Ukrainian version of the show (though he also said that he hated it and regrets ever signing up). It’s smart brand synergy to get the ratings for both parties up, and think of all the dancing-related challenges that they could do! Plus, Cheryl is at least a likable leading lady in that she’s smart, funny, and already has fair warning about what the experience is like. She and the show’s producers have at least talked about the gig, but Burke told reporters after the “Dancing with the Stars” taping that it is hardly a done deal that she will be handing out roses anytime soon.

On the negative, “Bachelor” executive producer Mike Fleiss has shown little interest as of late in bringing people unrelated to the franchise previously to star, and he hasn’t done so since Brad Womack the first time around. It’s likely that he would only make such a move in the event that he knew it was a slam dunk, and with “Dancing with the Stars” declining in popularity this year, this may not be as much of guaranteed hit as it would have been two years ago.

What do you think: is “The Bachelorette: Dancing with Your Heart” bound to happen? (Okay, we just created the title.)
