Blue Bloods season 10 episode 9 arrives this coming Friday, and we’ve got a sense that for some characters, there are some difficult times coming. That’s especially true for Garrett, who seems to be the target of the new Mayor-elect as he tries to reshape the city.

In the video below, Frank makes it clear to his longtime colleague and confidant that the Mayor wants him to be replaced, which we would assume is a way for him to instill someone who may be a little more loyal to his office and a little less loyal to Tom Selleck’s character. We can’t imagine that Frank is going to love this, given that Garrett is such a loyal member of the team and someone who has gone above and beyond the line of duty. This is setting up to be one of the first major clashes between Frank and Peter Chase, and we imagine that it’s going to be an eventful one.
In the end, though, we just have a hard time imagining that the end of the road for Garrett is here at the Commissioner’s office. Why in the world would Frank want to get him out? Sure, we understand that there is some tangible value in building up some bonds with the new Mayor, but not at the expense of your own people. This just feels like one of those ways to build up hype and intrigue around an upcoming episode — we think the writers know how much Garrett is loved, and also how much we’d all be tearing up and/or being upset if something happened to him. (Granted, we’re sure that Garrett could still be a part of the world of Blue Bloods even if he was replaced, but it’s hard to imagine that we’d be seeing anywhere near as much of him.)
