‘Downton Abbey’ season 3 finale spoilers: What’s up with Bates and Anna?

Even though we did previously share the first image from the “Downton Abbey” finale a little bit earlier in the week, we’re really now starting to ramp up our coverage courtesy of a few photo previews. This marks the first article, and we will have more over the next 48 hours taking an in-depth look at some of the images that you will see in various scenes during the episode.

This first one should be a treat to all fans of Bates and Anna, though it simultaneously may also give them some reasons to worry. Why? The image basically shows the two parties involved in painting something, but Anna does not seem particularly pleased about whatever is going on. Did she just realize just how violent the love of her life was in his time behind bars, or has he done something to get himself in trouble again? We’ve worried for the past week that his release may have been marred by something that he did while in prison, and maybe this is that very thing coming back to bite him.

Of course, there is also a valid question to ask here in where in the world they are. Have these two moved to a separate residence, or are they painting a specific room of the Abbey? So much here is unclear, and at this point it’s actually a strange feeling to see Bates wearing normal clothes again. We don’t know how it is going to happen at the moment, but we just want to see these two characters by happy for a change.
