Blue Bloods season 10 episode 7 review: Jamie & ‘Higher Standards’

Blue Bloods season 10

Crises of conscience are fairly omnipresent within the world of Blue Bloods, and it shouldn’t come as a great shock that there were many of them that transpired tonight. “Higher Standards” raised the question of what happens when certain characters make mistakes — and also, how they can recover from it.

Let’s start off with one Jamie Reagan, who seemed to make a mistake that was, at least in our mind, quite clear — he decided that it would be a good idea to throw water at a perp as a result of watching that perp through water at one of his cops. He took an eye-for-an-eye approach, but the problem is that we as a society aren’t living in the stone ages anymore. There are some other ways to deal with some of these problems and Jamie just isn’t thinking of how to properly handle those. He put himself in this terrible position and now, he had to figure out how to deal with it. That’s especially after Frank condemned him and was reprimanded for it. They of course patched things up in the end … ironically, Frank admitted that he may have done the same thing in his shoes.

Meanwhile, Erin had to find a way in order to ensure that justice was served over a man who she put away some time ago. That guy got a bad lawyer who didn’t advise him right, and it wasn’t until Jack presented her with it that she took another look. Danny also had to find a way to patch things up with Erin after spending a good bit of time being upset over a perceived “lack of evidence.” Yet, he did find a clever way to trick his perp into signing a confession. This storyline did produce a heartfelt moment between Danny and Henry as Henry questioned some of his own future. He recognized that sooner or later, he could end up having dementia like some of the victims of Danny’s criminal. At the end of the episode, Henry and Danny ended up taking part in trivia night together — as it turns out, Henry is as sharp as a tack at this point in his life.

CarterMatt Verdict

This is an episode of Blue Bloods that is about what it means to be a cop or a prosecutor, but then also the weight that goes along with it. While it wasn’t the best storyline for Danny, it did give us some great stories for both Erin and Jamie — Erin in particular may be having her best run of episodes that we’ve seen in some time.
