Why is Lucas Black leaving NCIS: New Orleans, Christopher Lasalle?

In the end, we know that there are a lot of different reasons why someone can leave the show — it can be for creative reasons, they have another job, or there’s a contractual issue behind the scenes. In this case, though, it seemed to be based mostly on a decision that Black made himself to have more time with those close to him. In a statement, here is what the showrunning team of Christopher Silber and Jan Nash had to say on the subject:
“We had an amazing run with Lucas Black and he has been such an important part of our NCIS: New Orleans team … We are sad to see him go, but happy he will have more time to spend with his family.”
So, at least for now, that seems to be it for Black. We wanted to think that this could be some sort of twisted dream or that there was something a little bit more underneath the surface here, but we know better than to have a lot of hope for that sort of thing.
Black was one of the original cast members for NCIS: New Orleans as a series, having started up all the way back during the backdoor pilot. He’d been an essential part of the story but, in the end, him leaving the show now creates an interesting void. We don’t think that there is any replacing him per se, but we’re sure that the writers will come up with some other way to bring a capable performer into the mix. We’re excited to see who that is, and beyond that, what they are able to do to make that character stand out.
For now, let’s just reiterate one thing — we’re going to miss Christopher Lasalle. Not only that, but we’re going to miss him dearly. He was a major part of the lifeblood of this series.
