Sami Gayle leaving Blue Bloods, Nicky Reagan-Boyle — for now?
At the end of tonight’s new episode — i.e. the family dinner scene — we learned that Gayle’s character is officially going to be departing to San Francisco in order to take a new job. There are a lot of challenges there for her, whether it be a new city far from home, new responsibilities, or getting a chance to better find out precisely who she is.
While it does seem as though Nicky is leaving the world of Blue Bloods for good, we’re not sure that we would say that. Given the nature of this show, we have a feeling that she could be back at any point. As a matter of fact, we hope that she will! We think that everyone who leaves the show (or, at least, leaves still breathing) will have a chance to come back for more. The Reagans are a family, and what was nice about her family-dinner scene is that it seems as though she could be paying the family-dinner message forward by holding some of her own in the Bay Area. The family wished her well, so there is no frustration over her exit.
Gayle has been a key part of Blue Bloods as a series for as long as we can remember — we did not always get to see great stories with Nicky on a weekly basis, but she did sit at a lot of family dinners and, at least a few times a season, got a big storyline that was all her own. If she does come back later this season, there could still be an opportunity to see just that.
As of right now, Sami has yet to confirm her future on Blue Bloods one way or another, but it’s fair to say that you’ll be seeing a lot less of the Nicky character in some of the weeks to come.
