Is The Resident new tonight over on Fox — and what sort of stories should we be excited to see? Within this CarterMatt article, we come bearing a wide array of different information — both good and bad.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way here first. Like with Fox’s timeslot companion in Empire, there is no new episode of The Resident tonight — and go ahead and blame all of the folks over at Major League Baseball for that. Because of the World Series airing tonight, Fox’s lineup is pulled and it could be again next week too.

For now, you can expect episode 5 of the current The Resident season (entitled “Choice Words”) to air on Tuesday, October 29 … but it could be pushed back to November 5 based on whatever the outcome is between the Astros and the Nationals. What this will also dictate (most likely) is the length of the fall season and when the midseason finale airs. We think that The Resident was designed this season as a series of arcs; whenever season 3 goes on its holiday hiatus, we could see something crazy go down.

Anyhow, this brings us into the good news — we’re going to be seeing some other crazy stuff go down whenever the next new episode airs. If you saw the promo already for the next new episode, you know what we’re talking about here. A plane crash is about to cause carnage in Atlanta and through that, Dr. Bell is going to be stuck in a position to be a hero on board. He may not always be the most heroic guy, but through this episode, he’ll muster up a way to make it happen.

Meanwhile, also go ahead and prepare yourself for Devon being in a vulnerable position. He will find himself dealing with a lot of remorse and self-hate, thinking that he allowed someone to board that flight who had no business being in the air. He’ll think that his own medical decision ended up leading to an enormous tragedy and even if he followed protocol, that doesn’t make it right in his mind.

Finally, expect one more big thing for Conrad and Nic — the two of them doing everything that they can to investigate a drug they feel is linked to Jessie’s death. That’s the sort of thing that could have enormous consequences — if you mess with drug companies, you run the risk of everything falling apart.
