Outlander video: Richard Rankin names his favorite episode!

Outlander season 4

Later today (think 1:30 p.m. Eastern time), Starz is going to air their Outlander marathon that is all about some of the cast’s favorite all-time episodes. Before we get to that, though, why not also share Richard Rankin’s favorite episode? “Providence” is going to be spotlighted during this marathon, and there are a number of reasons why it stands out to him.

In the video HERE, Richard does his part to go through why, from a filming perspective, this is one of the most exciting things that he’s had a chance to be a part of with the show. Roger spends a lot of the episode trapped within the Mohawk village, and it is an opportunity to be separated from many of the people he cares about. He’s immersed in what is a completely different world, and Rankin echoes that it actually did feel that way while he was there behind the scenes.

One of the reasons why this all felt so authentic was the presence of a number of First Nations people from North America, people who came to the set with their stories and personal experiences. In addition to being able to work in this environment, Richard discusses the fun that just come from being able to hear from so many different, unique people who most actors in the UK rarely have an opportunity to meet. It’s just a fun cultural experience to have, and we have to imagine that it’s one that he cherishes. This is without even getting into some of Richard’s brilliant acting in the episode, which really feels like a tale of survival and personal sacrifice. This is recognition of just how much this man has changed in the time in which he’s been in the past. He’s undergone a lot, and there are many more shocking experiences that will likely come his way moving forward.

Outlander season 5 is premiering on Starz this February!
