Outlander marathon coming with Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe’s favorites

Outlander is not returning with new episodes until February, but luckily, Starz as a network is coming up with ways to keep you entertained until then.

This weekend, the network is airing what they are calling the Cast Playlist Marathon as a means to bring some more attention to the series. Starting at around 1:30 p.m. Eastern time until just after 8:00, you will see favorite episodes from a numbers of different cast members. As a better means to setting that up for fans, you can see Sam Heughan announce his own personal favorite HERE — “Sassenach,” the very first episode of the show. This is where we have a chance to first meet characters like Frank, Jamie, and Claire, and it’s where the journey begins. This is a touching episode in part because of where you’re starting from, and also just how far the journey is going to take some of these characters from there. It’s almost like stepping back into time ourselves watching it now!

In addition to “Sassenach” being a great episode, we also imagine that it has a very sentimental place in the heart of Sam and many other cast and crew members who worked on it. This is the story that fundamentally started it all for Outlander — this is where they had a chance to experience being on set and around each other for the first time and we have to imagine that there was something quite special that came from that. It had to be a wonderfully-unique experience to be doing this episode within the show’s Scottish bubble, back when book fans were really the only people who heard about the show.

While we cannot link up some of the other episodes with the actor who chose them in the marathon, we wouldn’t be shocked if Caitriona Balfe chose “Faith” from season 2. You also have in here the season 2 finale “Dragonfly in Amber” (one of our favorite episodes ever), “Uncharted” from season 3, and the big Jamie – Brianna meeting episode “The Birds & the Bees” from season 4.

Will a cast member’s new favorite episode be in season 5? We’ll have to wait and see on that when Outlander returns on February 16.
