‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 3 spoilers: More on Byron, Aria, and someone buried alive

There were some pretty interesting moments that came out of the “Pretty Little Liars” Halloween special, but in our mind there were two bombshells that really take the cake when it comes to the future of the series: the first one being the possibility that Aria’s own father Byron may be responsible for the death of Alison, and the latter being the hand that we saw rising out of the dirt at the tail end of the episode.

When it comes to the latter, we now have some much-needed verification that this was indeed a scene that was happening in the past on the show, and not something meant to be confused as someone recent seemingly coming back to life after they were killed off. Speaking to TVLine in a recent interview, here is what executive producer Oliver Goldstick had to say on this very subject:

“I can definitely confirm that. We’re kind of upset about that one, to be honest. We always do the whoosh effect to make it look like a flashback, and it didn’t work on the dirt [in that scene]. This was never intended to confuse people. That is from the past and was never meant to be present-day Halloween. That [setting was] the gazebo’s perimeter.”

As for the drama between Byron and Alison, this is going to be something that you will see plenty more of when the show does return for new episodes beginning on Tuesday, January 8:

“You’re going to like the season opener — and by no means is this a red herring. We are definitely going down this path. I’m sorry to tell you, but even the adults in Rosewood have been doing some lying — and they’ve got some real stuff to hide! You’re going to find out a lot more about his relationship to Alison in the first couple episodes… A parent may have killed one of his daughter’s friends. This is a huge secret that’s been swept beneath the rug. What does it do to any family in this town if, in fact, one of those parents goes to jail?”

In your mind, what was the biggest bombshell unveiled from this special?
