Who should come back: Fiona (Shameless), Maggie (Supergirl), more!

Who Should Come Back

One of the best things about watching a long-running series is that you get invested in so many of the characters! Yet, at the same time the downside here is that you find yourself feeling sad in the event that a given character departs. You come to miss them, and you want to see them back in whatever way possible.

Ultimately, this is what this entire CarterMatt poll series for the month of September is all about! Within this article, we have six different characters who are missed by many on their respective shows. At the end of the article, there’s a poll for you to vote for who you’d love to see back! The two characters with the most votes will move on to the next round. The only real criteria we have is that these characters are not currently series regulars on their former shows — and they are still among the living.

Voting rules – Vote however often you’d like! This poll will remain open until Tuesday, September 17 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific time. The second round will begin for the winners here on Wednesday, September 18. (For more voting instructions or technical questions, check out the bottom of this article.)

Jack Dalton, MacGyver – Because Jack is still out there, the good news here is that we’re talking about someone who could return to the show in some capacity — even for just a one-time mission! What he brought to this world was humor, personality, but also an ability to get the job done no matter what. He proved to be the perfect counterpoint to Angus MacGyver in the early parts of this season.

Fiona Gallagher, Shameless – Fiona’s journey through Shameless and its run was a beautiful thing. We’re talking here about someone who was able to find ways to improve her life despite growing up with a terrible father and in a difficult part of town. Fiona still found a way to get out of it and find a better future — or at least we think. It’d be nice to know if she really did find a better life.

Rick Grimes, The Walking Dead – Let’s be clear — we know that there’s going to be more of Andrew Lincoln’s character … but it’s going to be on the big screen rather than the flagship show. We want him back at least one more time on the show. If nothing else, can we have a Michonne spin-off where the two reunite?

Sarah Reese, Chicago Med – She was one of the NBC series’ most empathetic characters, someone who cared deeply about her patients and her career. She’s determined that there is no future for her after what she went through with Dr. Charles, but like with Fiona, it’d be nice to get another update somewhere in season 5.

Maggie Sawyer, Supergirl – What would the mechanism be behind bringing the character back now? Given that Alex seems to be moving forward with Kelly Olsen, it’s hard to see how the story would pivot; yet, there is no denying what Floriana Lima’s character brought to the show or the tremendous impact the Sanvers relationship had on fans. It inspired them, and breathed a different sort of life into the Alex character as a whole.

Abby Sciuto, NCIS – This is one that, unfortunately, will almost never happen — Pauley Perrette has already expressed zero interest in a return to the character. Yet, it’s hard to deny the enthusiasm that is still out there for Abby herself, a flagship character with vivacity and passion for the job. It’s a part that soon became one of TV’s most-recognizable characters.

Now, let’s turn this over to you

Who do you want to see back on their respective show? Get to voting below!

I can’t see the poll; what do I do? – If you are on mobile, scroll to the bottom of the page and click to view the non-AMP version. If that does not work, give the poll a moment to load! On some mobile browsers, it may take a moment.

How can I vote more than once? – If you are having trouble casting multiple votes, try switching your browser, your device, or visiting the page under private browsing or incognito mode. There should be many handy guides online explaining how to do so if interested.
