Outlander season 5: A look at the likely schedule of episodes
First things first, let’s congratulate Starz on what feels to be some pretty smart scheduling when it comes to the show. The premiere is airing two weeks following the Super Bowl and a week after the Oscars — it’s not going to be overshadowed by either one of those things! It also still gets to air during the lucrative February sweeps ratings period, which is a move that is almost certainly great for its live ratings. We know that they’re a small piece to the puzzle these days, but it’s still a good thing to have for PR reasons, if nothing else.
So when you consider that season 5 is 12 episodes, how long will it go for? Will there be any breaks along the way? We don’t think so. There’s no real reason for Outlander to take a week off during production, mostly because there’s no extended holiday weekend for it to be worried about. Sure, Easter Sunday will be right in the home stretch of season 5 (think along the lines of April 12), but that shouldn’t be something that slows this series down. There’s a long history of shows airing over the course of the Easter holiday and doing just fine — most people celebrate in the morning and are back to their typical TV routine by the evening.
So when could the projected finale date be? Think along the lines of Sunday, May 3 — this allows the show to air in the thick of May sweeps, but also before Memorial Day Weekend. That’s the one weekend that is bad for TV viewing since people are outside doing other things.
Here’s to a fun season ahead — and also hopefully one that draws bigger numbers than ever before!
