Ready for MasterChef season 10 episode 18 to air on Fox Wednesday night? It’s beginning another run of two episodes this week and, for now, it feels like we’re diving into some weird territory. Or, at least that could be the case for the standard fan of food out there.
This is where Grant Achatz comes into play. He is a master of the culinary arts and also molecular gastronomy. He makes weird, interesting food creations and he allows people to think a little bit outside of the box. He wants his food to taste wonderful, but he also wants it to challenge you. He wants you to think about visual presentation and having an experience with your food. It’s a universal conversation point — think about it. No matter where you are in the world, food is a part of culture. It’s like family in that it’s one of those subjects that can always bring you together.
Can some of these home cooks impress Achatz with their creations? That’s not going to be easy given that he’s the sort of chef who has been working in this field for years. For some of these home cooks, they are going to be diving into this sort of culinary art form for the first time. They won’t have perfect technique, so they have to find a way to shift the focus somewhere else. They have to find a way to create some sort of stuff that’s going to be so outside of the box that they can compensate for some of the deficiencies.
Who knows? This could be the sort of challenge that has a long-term impact on some of these home cooks. Maybe there are a couple of remaining contestants who will discover something with liquid nitrogen or one of the other ingredients involved in this sort of cooking. Maybe it will make them live in this space for months and years on end before they take on more of a permanent residence here?
By the end of this episode, at least one home cook could be eliminated — if nothing else, one will be gone by the end of Thursday’s installment.
