Last week at TCA, The CW boss Mark Pedowitz indicated that there are no plans to end either Supergirl, The Flash, or Legends of Tomorrow in the near future. At the moment, this makes some sense — Arrow is ending with its upcoming eighth season, and with the future of Black Lightning uncertain still and Batwoman a ratings mystery, the network wants to rely on what they’ve already established.
Yet, how many years could some of these other shows have?
The Flash – We are entering season 6 of the long-running comic-book show, and if we were the CW, we would imagine that they would want to keep Barry Allen and the rest of their superheroes on the air through to a season 8, if they can. The problem will be making sure that they can keep the cast on board and also continue to keep the ratings steady. For now, we do think a season 8 is still feasible.
Legends of Tomorrow – Its long-term status is a little more mysterious, given that the Legends are frequently the least-promoted show of the Arrowverse (and easily our favorite out f the bunch) — it wasn’t at San Diego Comic-Con in a formal capacity and it’s not coming back until mid-season. We do think that there will be a season 6, but it wouldn’t be a shock if that ended up being the end of the road for this crew.
Supergirl – Could it make it to a season 8? We think that The CW would love it if it could, mostly because it would allow them to end one Arrowverse show a year and not lose too many of them all at one time. Even though we are a few years in with this show, in some ways it feels like we’ve only just gotten started. There are still so many stories left to tell!
In general, we’d be shocked if any of these shows made it to a season 10, mostly because of the sheer size of their cast and also the fact that Supernatural making it to season 15 is a one-in-a-million sort of situation (as it is for any shows that make it that long!). For now, we are just happy that we are getting another season of all of these shows.
Supergirl and The Flash will be premiering this October. To get some of the latest Supergirl casting news, be sure to visit the link here.
