NCIS season 17 filming: A sheriff and some night shoots

NCIS season 17 filming is now in full swing! It’s been going on for long enough now that there’s talk of what episode the cast and crew are even filming at the moment — and we’re hoping for some interesting mysteries and head-scratchers coming up in the fall. Besides more of the personal stories for our characters like we saw in season 16, what could the creative team have planned for us this time around?

In a new post on her Instagram Stories, we have a pretty intriguing update courtesy of none other than series star Emily Wickersham. Filming took place overnight in what looks to be a Sheriff’s office — one that feels almost like a modern-day equivalent of the old west. It’s not often that you see a building with “Sheriff” branded across the top of it unless you’re on a show like Deadwood, but that is exactly what we are seeing.

So what is the NCIS team doing outside of a Sheriff’s office in the middle of the night? We think that there are only so many different readings that you can have of that! There’s obviously some sleuthing going on as the team works to do whatever they can to solve another case. The setting is a little bit intriguing, and that’s what has us interested in whatever is coming up next. Also, there has to be a specific reason for night shoots! It’s a time strain on the cast and crew, given that it means adjusting their sleep schedules and just from a production stand point night shoots can be a bit more costly when you think of just the lighting set up alone.

Here is hoping for a great season for Wickersham’s Ellie Bishop — we think that the potential is there for her to have a lot of good story starting with the premiere! Just remember that Bishop and Ziva have a small, but important, history of communication thanks to “She” and it would be kind of fun if the two of them were to meet. Also, now that Gibbs knows that Ziva is alive, how is it all going to shake out when Gibbs finds out that Bishop knew all this time and said nothing? Will he understand why she kept it a secret or will he no longer trust Bishop? And of course there’s the tension that’s been building with Torres and with Kasie calling him out on his feelings in the season 16 finale we are looking forward to seeing where that goes.
