Animal Kingdom season 4 episode 9 promo: Smurf’s mystery visit
Think back to last week’s new episode where she hopped aboard a plane. We knew that she had a specific goal in mind but no good sense of what it was or how she was executing it. Things are about to become a little bit clearer. On this upcoming episode, Smurf’s whereabouts will be revealed and odds are, where she is in her present has a good bit to do with her past.

We don’t need to put on our detective cap for some of this to start to become clear. Colin is Pope and Julia’s father, and we’re going to see the story build more towards how Smurf ends up becoming the crime matriarch that she is. Meanwhile, it was announced this week that The Originals alum Joseph Morgan would be coming on board in the role of Jed, Colin’s brother. Smurf may be visiting the future version of Jed while we see her start to interact with him in the past. How Jed plays into the end of this season should prove interesting given that Smurf is near death and she doesn’t have all that much to lose. We know that she’s never acted as though she had that much to lose in the first place, but this is a very different situation. This represents her recognizing that there is an element of her legacy she may want to preserve.
Sure, we know that Smurf is ruthless and doesn’t often care about the feelings of others, but there’s one exception to that rule — she cares greatly how people choose to remember her. In our mind, she wants them to recall vividly how much control she had.
