Animal Kingdom season 4 spoilers: Joseph Morgan nabs big role

Following his time on The Originals, be prepared now to see Joseph Morgan on Animal Kingdom season 4 — and he may be tied to Smurf’s past in a very important way.

According to a new report coming in via TVLine, Morgan will be recurring starting on next week’s episode as Jed, Colin’s brother and Pope’s uncle. This is a character who will be featured within the Smurf flashbacks that we’ve seen for the better part of the season. This is a character who exists on a plane that is far off of the beaten path — the character description notes that he has “rejected mainstream society and chooses to live in isolation on a rural compound with his beleaguered wife and three children.” Suffice it to say, Jed is going to be a most unusual character.

Now, there’s another question to go along with all of this: Why are we meeting him now? Well, know that next week’s new episode is going to feature Smurf visiting someone from her past and there’s at least a chance that this someone is a modern-day version of Jed. It would help to connect some dots and explain why we have spent as much time as we have with these flashbacks in the first place. Maybe he is someone who proves to be very important in the endgame of this season, or someone who ends up being a larger part of the Cody criminal operation.

The most important thing to remember is this: Smurf knows that she is dying of cancer. Because of this, she may be making some moves in order to better ensure that all of her affairs are in order … or that she’s getting to do whatever she wants to do before dying. Smurf is a hard person to predict and we imagine that we’ll get more evidence of that within this hour.
