Designated Survivor season 4 renewal hopes: More good news overseas

As we’ve said plenty of times already, we’re very much intrigued about a Designated Survivor season 4 coming to Netflix. There is no guarantee that it will happen, but we’re continuing to cross our fingers and hope for good news to be coming our way.

So, for the sake of this article, we come bearing some more good news on the subject of the show’s performance — at least in the UK and Ireland. While Netflix US does not release viewership numbers of the show, the overseas arm does; not only that, but they did a good job of indicating what the most popular shows are for this past week in terms of viewership. Designated Survivor came in at #10, which is pretty good news for a show that’s been out for weeks now — and also a show about American politics.

As we’ve said before, one of the reasons why this series is so popular overseas is tied to the star power that Kiefer Sutherland brings. There’s a recognition that he draws eyeballs for 24 and for his music career. We do think that America, as a focal point of the world, often tends to command attention — and other countries have a curiosity about the political process, even in a fictionalized form. (We wish that American viewers had the same exact interest in some shows overseas — wouldn’t that make us all a little bit more cultured?)

With Stranger Things set to come out tomorrow, we gotta assume that the Netflix landscape as a whole is about to become a little bit more crowded. Our hope is that Designated Survivor does still continue to make an imprint and on the other of that, get the season 4 renewal that is so deserved. We’ve already made the case for Netflix to renew it on Independence Day — is there a better time for it? Hard to imagine so.

Remember if you are just now getting around to watching it, be sure to stream the whole way through! That’s the best way to ensure it sticks around.
